Chapter 6
However, Franklin had never cherished her
Jerry’s breath caught. The car was terrifyingly quiet as he stiffly turned to face Franklin, asking in surprise, “Isn’t that…“.
Franklin blinked and replied, “Elizabeth.”
“How come… she’s…” Jerry still couldn’t believe his eyes.
They were shocked to see Elizabeth racing on the street at such a late hour. From what they knew of Elizabeth, she should be at Shiny Estate, waiting for Franklin to come home and preparing his breakfast and clothes for the next day, right down to a perfect little brooch.
Jerry rubbed his eyes and asked, “Am I seeing things?”
Franklin wished that he was mistaken. But that person was exactly Elizabeth. Dressed in black clothes and long pants with a helmet in her hands, she was standing under the red light on the sidewalk and grinning mischievously at the traffic cop.
Without much hesitation, Franklin spoke in a low voice, “Jerry, pull over and take Elizabeth back home.”
After years of working for Franklin, Jerry was surprised by the impatience in his voice. It seemed humiliating for Franklin to pick up Elizabeth–especially since she was clearly breaking traffic laws. And it really was. Given any other option, Franklin would have ignored her.
Jerry had witnessed it before.
Yvonne, Franklin’s third older sister, once slapped Elizabeth right in front of him. She called her a lowly creature and mocked her for not being worthy of being Franklin’s wife because of her background, Franklin didn’t step in. He just found the whole thing too noisy and told Elizabeth to put up with his sister’s behavior.
Such things happened many times over the years, but every time, Elizabeth endured it. When facing Franklin, she would always nod obediently and agree with him. So when she stopped being so compliant, Franklin couldn’t stand it. His tone turned cold as he gazed out the window and bluntly said, “Don’t bother talking to her. Just bring her here. Let’s avoid any drama.”
Jerry replied nervously, “Got it.”
He thought Elizabeth was likely going to face scolding when she got in the car.
She had endured scolding countless times, mostly from Franklin’s siblings.

Blindfold Of Love
Franklin was truly angry with her only once. That day, he was drunk and got lipstick marks from another woman on his neck. In a tipsy state, he held her chin, messily kissing her cheek, asking if she was upset.
Elizabeth denied it and said that she was just concerned about Franklin’s health. What she said made Franklin angry. He pushed her hard, causing Elizabeth to stumble and hit her head on the cabinet corner. B‘ 1 flowed down half her face, leaving a scar that stayed visible.
Despite this, Elizabeth didn’t throw temper tantrums. Facing Franklin, she said, “It’s okay. I know it wasn’t intentional. I just lost my balance. Sorry for causing trouble for everyone.”
Later, whenever she got hurt or shed tears, she wouldn’t let Franklin see. Even if he did see, he’d just think she was playing the victim for sympathy, just like what he thought at this moment.
Franklin thought Elizabeth was using divorce as an excuse to line her pockets, and that only made Franklin more disgusted. He slightly lowered his eyes, while his gaze was following Jerry’s departing figure.
Approaching Elizabeth, Jerry politely said something before turning away to look towards the car, likely advising her to obediently return.
By moonlight, Elizabeth glanced upwards. The tawny car window and dim streetlights blurred her face and Franklin’s features inside the car. Their silhouettes were barely visible to each other, but they both knew their gazes were locked in a silent exchange.
“Go back with him?” she asked casually.
Jerry nodded and replied, “Frank is waiting for you.”
“Go tell him…” Elizabeth tugged on the cinch rope of her helmet and continued, “I’m not going back.”
