Elizabeth didn’t expect to turn out to be this kind of person in his eyes after spending three years with him. Her emotions were a whirlwind as she faced Franklin, her features a blend of incredulity and delicacy. “If that’s what you think, I won’t deny it. So did you sign the papers?” she asked again.
Franklin’s patience ran low. His tone wavered slightly as he frowned. “Is there no end to your drama?”
“No one takes this lightly, Franklin,” she sa
He knew better than her what she meant. He just refused to believe it.
Elizabeth looked resolute and said sternly, “You probably don’t want to keep this going. Once you sign, we’re done. What I’m asking is just a drop in the bucket for you, Franklin.”
“Why now, after three peaceful years?” he pressed, baffled by the sudden change.
Turning away, Elizabeth swallowed the bitter truth that had been churning inside her, too painful to voice and too private to share.
Franklin, never one to handle complexity well, grew restless, loosening his tie as he glanced at Elizabeth. Her attire today was practical for biking, a stark contrast to her usual soft and charming style, exuding a wildness he hadn’t seen before.
In Franklin’s eyes, the long–tamed pet was finally showing its claws.
“Elizabeth,” he said, calming his tone, trying to sound casual. “Have I been
neglecting you lately, not coming home early enough?”
She met his gaze, her eyes now cold and distant, a transformation that took only a day. “Franklin, you know better than me,” she replied, her voice laced with mockery.
“I’m trying to talk to you seriously,” he insisted.
“Franklin, you’ve never made time for me,” she retorted, her words dripping with
sarcasm.
Franklin was a master at emotional distance and manipulation, skills he’d used to keep Elizabeth under his thumb.
But now, as he moved closer, his refined features looming, she saw the storm -brewing in his eyes, a sign of his displeasure.
In the dim light, his cold breath brushed against her cheeks as he moved in closer, making her freeze.
She wasn’t sure what he wanted to do, so she subconsciously stepped back, trying

to evade. But she was cornered with nowhere to retreat. Bumping into the wardrobe handle unexpectedly, she suddenly felt a sharp pain in her back. Before she could react, Franklin grabbed her waist.
The warmth of his palm through the thin fabric indled memories of their intimacy, sending a shiver through her. As he led in, his lips nearly touching hers, she raised her hand to his chest.
With confusion in her clear eyes, she asked, “What are you doing?”
Franklin seemed puzzled too. “You want a divorce because I haven’t been intimate with you lately, right?”
A deathly silence hung over the room. They could almost hear each other’s heartbeats.
Elizabeth no longer expected Franklin to make any effective attempt to save their marriage. She knew that he didn’t want to keep it going.
With her hand still resting on his shoulder, she said with a forced smile, “Franklin, are you a bit too confident in yourself?”
His expression shifted as he subtly created distance, but he couldn’t avoid her incendiary words.
“To be honest, our first time together was quite–mediocre,” she stated, her honesty a stark contrast to the intimacy they were sharing.
