Chapter 14
Sofia’s Point of View
“Thanks for carrying that for me,” I said to Ethan as we made it up to my
room.
“It was nothing. I have some work I have to do with my dad right now, but I will meet you here later to take you to dinner so we can have that talk.
How does seven sound?” Ethan asked
“It sounds good,” I replied
“Great, I will see you later,” Ethan said
“See you,” I replied, and Ethan walked away.
Ethan’s Point of View
I was so upset when we went to Sofia’s apartment. I already knew where
she lived because I used to follow her when she rode the bus home from
school. She would either go to the diner where she worked or to the apartment complex. It was on the poor side of town and in a bad neighborhood. There were prostitutes and drug dealers that stood outside. of her apartment building. I hated that she lived there, and I couldn’t stand the thought of something happening to her. That was why I would follow her every day after school. I even followed her on the weekends when she

had to come home from work. I knew her work schedule.
I was shocked to see a note on the door from the electric company. I knew it was a disconnect notice. When Sofia went to her room, I tried the light switch to see if it would come on, and just like I suspected, it didn’t. I had learned the night before that the gas had been cut off and that she had stayed there alone with no heat. Her mom abandoned her. I would never understand how a mother could do that to their daughter. I had no idea her mother treated her so terribly. I guess I should have known. My parents told me that Sofia’s mother never showed any concern about Sofia’s schooling. My mom had called her mother about three months after Sofia started going to school with us to tell her how good Sofia was doing in school, and she told my mom that she didn’t have time to listen to her speak about Sofia and to never call her again. I should have known back then that her mother didn’t care about her. We were only in the fifth grade, and she couldn’t care less about how her daughter was doing.
I wished I never pulled away from her. I thought I was doing what was right, but now I know I was a fool. Sofia never told Ella anything about her home life, but maybe she would have told me if I never pulled away from her, and I could have done something to help her. When I walked into Sofia’s room, I got even more angrier. She only had a mattress on the ground that she slept on with an old blanket. I was sure she had to have been freezing that night when the heat was cut off. I grabbed the trashbag out of her hand that held all of her belongings. It wasn’t even full.
I was so happy we were about to leave that place, but an old man was standing by the front door when we opened it to leave. He was the owner of the apartment and told Sofia that he was looking for her mother. I was so upset when his eyes started roaming her body. When he told Sofia that

he knew her mother had abandoned her and told her that they needed to talk so they could come up with an arrangement so that she didn’t end up in the streets, I had had enough. I quickly told Ella to take Sofia to the car. Once they were gone, I told him that Sofia would no longer be staying there and that if he had any questions or concerns, he would have to
contact her mother.
He had an attitude and told me that if her mother didn’t pay him, she would pay him one way or another, and that did it. I grabbed him by his shirt and pushed him up against the wall. “You will stay away from her, and if you ever come near her, you will regret it. Do you understand me?” I basically growled.
“Yes, I understand.”
“Good, I am happy we have come to an understanding,” I replied. I picked up the trash bag with Sofia’s belongings and walked out of the apartment building and to my car, where Ella and my mate were waiting for me. At that moment, I promised that I would make everything up to Sofia. I would give her the life she always deserved. A life with nothing but happiness.
All I had to do was make her trust me and win her heart. I knew it would be hard to do that after the way I treated her, but I would spend the rest of my life proving to Sofia how much I loved her. How much I always have loved her
