“You. Sofia. You are my Mate,” Ethan said. I couldn’t believe what he was telling me. How could I be his Mate? I was only a human, and Ethan hated me. Ethan was silently watching me. I knew he was letting me take in what he had just told me. I didn’t know what to say. I was so shocked.
“So, that’s why you are being nice to me now because of some mate
bond?” I asked.
“Sof.”
Mandy picked that moment to come into the room with our drinks. “Your food will be ready shortly.” Mandy said as she smiled at Ethan, and then
she left.
I could feel Ethan’s eyes on me as I took a sip of my sweet tea. I wouldn’t
look at him. I didn’t know how to feel about all of this.
“Sofia. I know I have been a jackass toward you, and I am sorry,” Ethan
said
“You hate me, Ethan. How am I your soulmate?” I asked
“That is not true. I don’t hate you. I could never hate you. You are the most. beautiful girl in the world. You are so caring and…” Ethan took a deep

“What?” I asked confused
“I have been in love with you since the day you walked into the school. I wanted to be with you so bad. You have no idea how hard it was for me to ignore you. For me to sit there and do nothing when someone said. something mean to you, but I thought I was doing the right thing by staying away from you,” Ethan said.
“If you were in love with me, then why would you think that was the right thing?” I asked
“I didn’t know you were going to be my mate. My dad is the Alpha of the Pack, which means I will be Alpha soon. Normally, an Alpha’s mate is a higher rank wolf. A Beta’s daughter or even a Gamma’s daughter, but it is very rare for an Alpha to have a human mate,” Ethan said, and then he sighed. “Jane’s father is the Beta of the Pack. Her brother will be my Beta when I take over. “I thought she…” Ethan said, and then he was silent. I already knew what he was about to say.
“You thought she was going to be your mate because her family is a higher rank wolf,” I finished for him, and he looked at me.
“Yes, that was what I thought.” Ethan said. I hated how bad his words made me feel. He thought Jane was going to be his mate. I was sure he wished it was her and not me. They had been together since Freshman year. I was sure he was disappointed to find out I was his mate. I was only a human.
Chapter 22
I was about to tell Ethan I wanted to go home, but then Mandy walked into the room with our food and placed it on the table. The food looked very good, and I was hungry, so I decided I should eat before we left. Mandy placed the food in front of us before speaking. “Is there anything. else I can get you, Alpha?” Mandy asked
“No, Mandy. You can go now,” Ethan said
“Okay,” Mandy said, and then she left. I could tell she was disappointed because of the sound of her voice and her facial expression.
Ethan and I ate in silence. The steak was so delicious. It basically melted in my mouth, and the seasoning was right on. I was happy I decided to stay and eat instead of telling Ethan to take me home. I could feel Etha’s eyes on me the entire time I ate. I never looked up at him, but I knew he was looking.
Once we were done, Ethan paid the bill, and we left.
“Sof, I know you are confused and upset, and you have every right to be, but I was hoping you would give me a chance,” Ethan said
“I know you wish Jane were your mate,” I said.
“What?” Ethan asked shocked
“Jane, I know you wish she were your mate. That was what you wanted in the first place. For her to be your mate. The two of you have been together since Freshman year. I know you don’t really love me, and you are only telling me that because I somehow turned out to be your mate. I know you
are in love with Jane.” I said, and Ethan suddenly pulled the car to the side of the road..
“That is not true. Sof. I am not in love with Jane. Honestly, I barely like her.” Ethan said, which shocked me.
“I made her my girlfriend because I thought we were going to be mates. I was hoping that if I made her my girlfriend and spent time with her, I would fall in love with her and forget about you, but that never happened. It was hard being with her. She isn’t the nicest person and is very spoiled. I never got over you, in fact, I fell more in love with you as time passed. I should have known she wasn’t my mate,” Ethen said. I didn’t know if I could believe him. I wasn’t sure if he was only saying this because of the mate bond.
“I know it’s hard for you to believe me because of the way I acted toward you. I know I fucked up, but please give me a chance to prove everything to you. Please give me a chance to show you how much I love you.”
