Chapter 12
Dylan didn’t know what Layla was up to, but he cheerfully nodded. “Yeah, I live in Blossoms Home.”
Layla bit her tongue and corrected her choice of words. She would no longer call it an “orphanage.” “Dylan, the weather’s getting warmer. How about I take you back to Blossoms Home to change into some fresh clothes?”
Dylan glanced at his clothes. Since he was eager to return home as well, he nodded. “Can we visit Mommy afterward?”
“Sure,” Layla agreed with a smile.
Dylan’s legs swung happily under the table.
After breakfast, Layla changed into a new outfit, and they set off.
On the way, Dylan excitedly stood up to direct the way. Layla, who was wearing a pair of lavender sunglasses, scolded the mischievous child in the backseat, “Sit down and fasten your seatbelt. If you don’t behave, I’ll throw you out right now,”
Dylan immediately sat down properly.
Having grown up in Lasville, Layla was very familiar with the area. Plus, since Stephen had been from Blossoms Home, she knew it even better than most.
The car headed toward the suburbs. Dylan looked up at Layla with admiration. “Aunt Layla, I want to leam to drive too.”
Layla ignored him.
Blossoms Home was situated on a hillside in Lasville. It was once run–down, but after Stephen was taken in by the Murray family, Robert, touched by the children’s plight, immediately funded extensive renovations for the orphanage.
Once the internal facilities were fixed, they began repairing the roads. Robert was known throughout Somersia for his charitable acts, though he unfortunately had a spoiled granddaughter.
Many economists predicted that the Murray family would eventually fall apart. And there were speculations that with Robert’s passing, the family might come under the Yates name. Some even said that Stephen was merely a child groom chosen for Layla..
Layla had heard all sorts of rumors.
The car slowly wound up the mountain roads.
The morning sun was blinding, but Layla’s sunglasses provided good protection.
There were no other cars in sight. Dylan leaned against the window, excitedly watching the scenery.
Before long, they came across a sign and tumed a comer. Layla found herself in front of a large, unfamiliar gate with a small door open for entry.
The security guard, Shaun Welch, stepped out and asked Layla, “What brings you here?”
Dylan opened the car door. “Mr. Welch, it’s me.
“Dylan! It’s been a long time since I’ve seen you.” Shaun greeted Dylan with a broad smile and patted his head “And who’s driving?
Dylan cheerfully answered, “Aunt Layla is Daddy’s wife.”
Upon hearing Layla’s name, Shaun immediately opened the gate and allowed her to drive in.
Layla, unfamiliar with the layout of the orphanage, needed Dylan to guide her.
“That car looks like Daddy’s.” Dylan pointed to a black vehicle parked under a large tree.
Layla looked at the license plate and gritted her teeth. “It doesn’t just look like it. It is his!”
Wasn’t Stephen supposed to visit only in the middle of the month? Today was just the 13th. Why was he here?
Layla parked her carnext to Stephen’s. After getting out, Dylan ran off excitedly.
Meanwhile, Layla locked the car and took in the quiet surroundings, Winter was still lingering, and everything looked bleak “Dylan, you little rascal. Wait for me!” Layla shouted across the yard. “I’m catching up. You’d better watch out!”
In the director’s office, when Stephen heard the familiar voice, a smile graced his lips.

The director, Maya Thorne, sald inconfusion, “That voice doesn’t sound like one o “Layla’s here,” Stephen replied.
