Chapter 18
The maids were at a loss as they glanced at each other, then at Alfred
Layla’s voice was cold and hard as she demanded, “Give me those papers.”
One of the maids walked over and handed Layla the papers she had wanted to hide. Upon opening the papers, Layla was greeted by the headline: “Son–In–Law of Murray Group Caught in Midnight Rendezvous With Mysterious Lady in Red”
The article came with a picture of a woman in a red dress bending down to get into the backseat of Stephen’s car. After that, the paparazzi caught them heading toward a private club. They reportedly stayed there until the late hours.
Layla clicked on the news feed on her social media and found the netizens discussing this scandal with fervor.
“Stephen’s too influential and powerful. He only married Ms. Murray because the Murrays had no other choice. They probably hoped to rein him in through this marriage,” someone wrote.
“I agree. I don’t think Ms. Murray and Stephen are in love at all. She was caught partying at a club on her wedding night and stirred up quite a scandal. I heard her cards were frozen after that.
“Stephen probably used the business trip as an excuse to meet other women, but what’s new in the world of the rich and famous? I bet Ms. Murray’s had her fair share of flings too.”
“So the Murrays married off their heiress to keep their fortune safe, huh? But Stephen isn’t exactly a saint, either. He could stand to be a little more grateful seeing as Mr. Murray Senior raised him, but he just had to set his sights on Murray Group and force the old man to marry oft his granddaughter.
“I heard Mr. Murray senior even pretended to be ill so that Stephen would agree to the marriage.
“Oh, please. It’s not like Ms. Murray is a saint either. She’s arrogant and untempered, and all she wants to do is drink and party. You can’t with her antics,”
“Wait, Is Stephen’s mysterious midnight date a certain famous actress?”
“You might be right! I can’t see her face, though. I know she’s got a powerful bacluer, but I didn’t think it would be Mr. Vates”
The news feed was flooded with wild comments and theories. It didn’t take long for Layla’s wedding night scandal to start trending.
expect Stephen to put up
The gossips of the internet posed their guesses to the masses. “All Ms. Murray did was go to the bar, and Mr. Murray Senior punished her by freezing her cards. I bet It was to keep Mr. Yates from divorcing her out of anger. Guess Mr. Yates is the head of the Murray tamily now!”
Layla locked her phone and rose to her feet. Dylan stood up as well. “Aunt Layla, where are you going?”
She glanced at the kid and said, “Stay in the house.” She then went upstairs to wash up and huttled out the door.
Seeing this, Alfred grew worried and called Robert, who was in Elmsbury. “Mr. Murray Senior, we’ve got a problem. Ms. Murray saw the article in the papers today and stormed out.”
Robert might not have read the papers, but the internet told him enough. The Murrays had yet to make a statement despite the gossip spreading like wildfire.
At once, Robert hung up and dialed Stephen’s number. He wanted an explanation from the latter. He figured he had done enough for Stephen by berating Layla for partying at a bar and freezing her bank cards,
And yet, Robert said nothing when he saw Stephen meeting the mysterious lady at night. He had chosen to stew in his anger instead.
Quiet anger was far more terrifying than an outburst.
Stephen was in the boarding hall waiting for his flight back to the country. He set the papers down and pinched his nose bridge in frustration. Just then, his phone rang. “Yes, Grandpa
