Chapter 43
To everyone, it was unclear whether Layla was here for a job or to cause trouble.
Jonah’s eyebrows shot up in surprise. “Wait, you’re actually here to apply for a job?” he asked, incredulous.
Layla nodded, her expression unreadable. “Does it not look like I’m here for a job?”
Jonah felt a mix of confusion and apprehension. “Well, we’re only hiring for one sales position right now,” he said, trying to make sense of the situation.
Her response was cool and composed. “That works for me.”
He hesitated, feeling as if the usual dynamics had shifted. “Alright then. If it’s convenient, let’s go to the office. We’ll need to conduct a brief interview.”
With that, Layla followed Jonah into the conference room.
Inside the conference room, Jonah and Layla were alone. Outside, the staff whispered to each other.
“Did you see her? I thought she was here to cause trouble. I even got my phone ready to record if she started acting up,” one staff member said.
Yeah, she went straight to the manager. It was kind of scary,” another added.
“There’s no way she’ll get hired with that attitude. Jonah is probably just going through the motions,” someone else said.
With no other visitors around, the staff gathered, curious about what was happening.
In the conference room, Layla leaned back in her chair and asked Jonah, “So, how does the interview work?”
Jonah asked, “Do you h
have a resume?”
Layla didn’t have one. She hadn’t needed one before and hadn’t thought of the interview process or resume requirements when Stephen mentioned her joining the company. “Do you have a computer? I can make one now.”
Jonah hesitated for a moment, then said, “I think you might—”
Layla cut h
cut him off, “I’m Layla Murray.
Jonah’s eyes widened. “Ms. Murray?
In disbelief, Jonah hurriedly walked out with Layla and called an emergency moming meeting “Everyone, meet our new team member, Layla. Make sure you introduce yourselves ”
The staff was stunned. Their eyes widened in shock. What was happening?
Jonah pointed to one of his employees. “Sally, show Layla around and explain the sales scripts.”
Sally nodded. “Sure, Jonah.”
Another woman next to Sally scrutinized Layla from head to toe, clearly unimpressed by her appearance and attire.
“Alright, everyone, back to work,” Jonah said.
Layla nodded and followed Sally out of the room
Sally asked, “Layla, what did you do before this job?”
Layla replied, “I didn’t have a job.”
Sally, not wanting to push the topic, started showing Layla around. She gave her a tour of the company, including the history, culture department, and reception
area.
Layla had never been to this branch of her family’s bu
business before. Sally explained, “Our Lamina Company is part of the Murray Group’s real estate division.
“It clients visit this afternoon and you’re unsure how to introduce us, just say we’re backed by the Murray Group, which means the houses are high quality and we don’t have issues with incomplete projects.”
Sally continued, “For elderly clients, highlight the charity foundation led by its chainman, Mr. Murray, and the Murray Group’s reputation. For younger clients, just say it’s managed by Mr. Yates of the Murray Group.”
Layla asked, “So, saying this will help close the sale?”
Sally nodded. “It’s mainly to reassure them. Now, let me show you the rooms.”
Layla followed Sally out.
jorials watched from the window as Layla leamed the ropes and then quickly called the CEO’s office at headquarters.
