Chapter 44
Jonah nervously reported, “Mr. Yates, we kept Ms. Murray’s identity a secret like you asked. She’s started her training now. Do you think it’s okay for her to be here? I’m worried we might not be ready for her.”
Jonah really wished Layla would just go to work at Murray Group. He couldn’t handle someone that important in his small branch.
Stephen asked calmly, “How is she doing with the training?”
Jonah looked where Layla had gone and said, “She’s being very cooperative.”
Stephen smiled and said, “That’s good to hear.”
Jonah then mentioned, “But Mr. Yates, Ms. Murray seemed a bit upset when she first came in.
Stephen laughed and replied, “Send me the video from her application today.”
Once the call ended, Stephen watched the video of Layla’s “troublemaking” visit. As he watched, he couldn’t help but laugh.
At the sales office, Layla spent the day with Sally, leaming how the job works. She got to know the property features, selling points, shared spaces, and how to figure out prices for different layouts.
Η
“If you’re new, don’t worry if you don’t remember everything right away,” Sally said kindly. “Just follow my lead when customers come in, and you’ll pick it up.”
Layla’s phone rang. Looking at it, she told Sally, “No need to worry. I’ve already remembered everything.”
Seeing that her grandfather was calling, Layla answered, “Hello? I’m out looking at properties. If it’s important, we can talk later.”
Her grandfather, Robert, sounded upset. “Is this how you talk to your grandfather?”
Layla was ready to argue but noticed others around and decided not to. “Forget it,” she said, ending the call.
She looked at Sally and said, “Just another old man who failed his cultivation quest.”
Sally laughed and asked, “Is he your family?”
In the CEO’s office, Stephen’s phone rang with a worried call from Robert.
“Stephen, Layla wants to move out. Do you know about this? Did you unfreeze her card, or is she buying a house with borrowed money?
Stephen was confused. “Move out?”
“Yes! I just talked to her. She’s looking at houses. Stephen, you need to fix this now. If you can’t handle it, I’ll come back myself. This is not okay.”
Stephen quickly remembered where Layla was “Grandpa, Layla’s actually started working at the sales office.”
“What?”
Stephen explained, “She asked to start working last night. I sent her there today.”
“Did you really send her to work in sales? Didn’t she argue with you?” Robert asked, sounding worried.
Stephen sighed, “No, she didn’t argue. I was expecting her to be difficult.”
Stephen knew things wouldn’t be easy for him in the coming days.
He added, “Starting her at the bottom will help her leam. It’ll make her more humble, help her manage her temper, and show her different kinds of people. It’s good for her.”
As noon approached, Layla called her grandfather.
“Grandpa, what’s up?” she asked.
“Why did you suddenly decide to start working?” Robert asked.
Layla answered, “I want to make some money and stay away from Stephen.”
Robert was silent for a moment.
“Stop joking around,” he said.
Layla looked at her bag and thought about Regina’s advice. “just focus on your cultivation quest. I’ve got this,” she said before ending the call.
