Chapter 65
As Layla and Benson were talking with the old man who needed to discuss things with his son first, Tiffany had leaned in toward them. When Benson had worked with Tiffany, he had ended up selling nothing. But with Layla, they had managed to bag a lot of deals.
Layla wanted to keep things on the down low so that they wouldn’t invoke feelings of jealousy among their colleagues. After all, she didn’t want to become a target. However, Benson was too excited to notice these things.
Men and women were built differently. Women were just naturally more perceptive and intuitive.
When she returned home, Stephen was already waiting for her in bed. He spent his downtime reading books.
Layla thought of the tie when she looked at him. He had spared her dignity that moming. On top of that, he had cleared up all the gossip articles about her.
So, Layla relented and didn’t chase him out of bed this time.
Her phone on the nightstand buzzed. It was a message from her friends.
They were all very sure that Stephen liked Layla. But it wasn’t just that. They also wanted to pick her up from work
Layla didn’t have the courage to send out the message that she had typed.
If they knew that she had been sent to a no–name, low–profile job in the middle of nowhere, Layla would be humiliated,
She threw her phone aside and buried her face in the sheets. “Ugh. I’m so annoyed.”
Stephen closed his book and looked at her. “Jonah said that you did pretty well today. Why are you annoyed?”
Layla pulled the blanket away from her face and looked at him. He was the cause of this irritation. Layla didn’t even know where to start venting to him.
She tumed to her side in a huff without replying to him.
Stephen looked at her from the comer of his eye. Then, he put his hand on her shoulder and asked in a low voice, “Did someone make you upset? Tell me who it is.” The warmth from his hand flowed through Layla’s body. She stiftened and then shrugged his hand ott. “It’s you. Don’t talk to me.”
Stephen noticed how cold her shoulder was, so he grabbed the blanket and put it over her.
Then, he tookout his phone and called Jonah. “Hello? Tell me who made Layla upset today.”
Layla shot up from the bed and stared at him. “Who is that?”
“The sales manager,” Stephen said.
Layla immediately grabbed his phone and ended the call. She frowned. “What are you doing? Do I look like the type to be picked on?”
what are you annoyed about? Stephen asked
Layla threw his phone to the side, and it happened to land next to hers. She lowered her head and pursed her lips as she said, “My friends don’t know that you’ve sent me to the sales gallery as a property agent.
but they also want to pick me up
“Since you’ve cleared out all the gossip websites, they think that you like me. They want to hang out with me during the weekend, b from work to see if I’d kicked you out of the office,”
Although she was merely talking about what had annoyed her, it sounded like sh

tears.
She thought that it was humiliating. After all, despite saying that she’d kick Stephen out of the office, she had ended up being the one that was lacked out instead.
She was the princess of her family. So, at the very least, she had to get a job that looked good on the surface.
That was how it was in her circle of friends. She was the only exception.
Stephen understood now. Layla was basically saying that her pride was hurt because he hadn’t given her a glamorous job.
