Chapter 89
As everyone stood in shock, Layla slowly approached Arla. Her tone was cold and steady.
“Even if Stephen becomes the CEO of the Murray Group, he’s still an outsider depending on us. And no matter how many surgeries you have, Aria, you’ll never be presentable enough.
“No matter what I do, I’ll always be the sole heir of the Murray Groups Lasville isn’t a city where you can act wild. It wasn’t back then, and it still isn’t now. I’m not someone you can afford to offend.”
Arla smoothed her hair and brought up the past on purpose. “What now? Are you planning to get Robert to suppress my family business again with the fact that Stephen once canted me?”
Back then, her family had been one of the top companies. But because of a quarrel between her and Layla on the field, she had “fainted” conveniently just as Stephen was passing by.
He had rushed to pick her up and carried her to the infirmary-
That incident caused her family business to suffer continuous setbacks. Her father had to humble himself to meet with the Murray family, after which the whole family moved out of Lasville to start out elsewhere. She had to transfer schools.
It was only after Aria left school that she learned the truth. Layla had thrown tantrums at home, and Robert who doted on Layla greatly took action against her family.
As everyone praised Robert as a benevolent man, only Aria knew how much she wanted to tear him apart for what he had done. His actions had set her family back by ten years.
But now she had retumed, full of pride.
Arla said, “What a pity though. Mr. Murray Senior no longer rules the Murray family, and Stephen is now the one in charge. He once carried me when I was unconscious, and do you think he’ll still listen to you now?
“I was surprised to hear you two got married. I never imagined Stephen would marry you. Of course, Mr. Murray Senior might have used underhanded tricks.
“He pushed you onto Stephen’s bed on purpose and out of fear that Murray Group might soon turn into the Yates” huh?
“Everyone knows how benevolent he is, yet he just seems righteous. He is so fond of playing dirty tricks behind the scenes, right?”
As Aria’s voice faded away, Layla’s hand snapped up and delivered a crisp slap to her face. The sound was heard throughout the silent lobby.
Bringing up the past had ignited Layla’s fury, and insulting Robert was adding fuel to the fire. Layla would be too forgiving if she decided not to do anything. “Layla, are you out of your mind? Do you still think you’re the untouchable heiress of the Murray family?
“Let me tell you that I’m back in Lasville at Stephen’s invitation, and yet you’re still putting on airs acting all princessy…”
Before Aria could finish her sentence, Layla slapped her hard again. “You don’t even know why I’m hitting you. I can’t care les
less about your drama with Stephen
“But slandering Robert, I’m afraid your family business shall be totally wiped out if we decide to press any further.” Humiliated by two slaps in public, Aria was beyond enraged. She lunged at Layla ready to claw at her, but Benson quickdy stepped in to block her.
“You might want to reschedule with your plastic surgeon. That last slap seems to have knocked your nose out of place. With that, Layla brushed past Aria and walked out.
Aria’s hand new to her nose in panic.
The brief drama left everyone in the lobby stunned and silent. Layla, the colleague they had worked with for days, turned out to be the infamous spoiled heiress. Sally was the first to react. As she walked past Aria, she glanced at Aria’s nose with a troubled look on her face. “It really is crooked.” With that, she left. Quick on the uptake, Benson looked at Aria’s face. “Maybe you should get your face checked too. It seems a bit asymmetrical now.” He then exited as well. Although the other colleagues from Lumina Company noticed nothing unusual with the unnaturally filled cheeks and sharply pointed nose, they nodded and muttered among themselves, “It’s true. Her chin looks off too.”
And with that, they all quickly left
Layla was already sitting in the passenger seat, waiting.
Wheneveryone had gotten outside, they noticed that Layla’s earlier drunkermess had nearly vanished.
Layla tossed herrar keys to Benson. “Delve in Murray Estate.”
