Chapter 92
“Then, why did you bring her back to disgust me?” Layla’s lips curled. Her voice was tinged with hurt.
Whether it was the alcohol or something else, Layla found herself usually teary tonight.
Stephen’s Adam’s apple bobbed as he tried to explain, “I didn’t bring her back. I was the one who drove her family out back then, so why would 1 invite her back?
“I only invited the CEO of the Evans Group Layla, did you see her alone tonight, or was she with someone else?
As Stephen spoke, his tone shifted, but Layla caught onto something. “You said you were the one who drove her family out back then?”
Stephen asked in return, “Do you believe that?”
“I don’t,” Layla replied firmly.
Her words sounded resolute, but for the first time, doubt crept into her heart.
Since marrying Stephen, Layla had caused her fair share of drama and had learned a lot through their interactions and clashes.
Yet she couldn’t discem whether her disbelief was genuine or just a stubborn refusal to concede. After all, Stephen’s words always turned out to be true in the end. Stephen glanced out the window and sighed softly. “Was there another man with her tonight?”
that’s
Layla retorted, “So now you’re concerned about the men around her? Stephen, if you dare bring some plastic surgery freak into my life as a mistress, th humiliation!”
Stephen.frowned. “You alone are enough to give me trouble. Where would I find the time or energy for a mistress?”
Layla puffed up her cheeks in anger. How was she giving him trouble?
“Well, Grandpa’s coming back to stand up for me. Your good days are numbered, Stephen.” With that, Layla headed for the bathroom.
Half an hour later, she emerged and caught sight of Stephen standing by the bed. She heard him say on the phone, “Which crew are you with right now? He should have arrived in Lasville, and he’ll be out of town for a few days.”
Hearing the word “crew“, an image of Regina’s actressy Lace popped up in Layla’s mind. “Stephen, and you claim you don’t have a side chick!”
On the other end of the line, Regine heard Layla’s outburst and chuckded. “I don’t know what you’re thinking, choosing such a jealous woman. She misunderstands every time a woman talks to you.”
Stephen glanced down with a faint smile on his lips. “she doesn’t even realize she’s jealous. She only knows how to throw a tantrum.”
Seeing the affection on Stephen’s face, Layla mistakenly thought it was directed at the woman on the phone. Her temper flared even more. “You still say there’s nothing between you and Regina, yet you’re practically…”
“Alright Regina, my dearest sister, I’m hanging up now.” Stephen ended the call.
Caught mid–sentence, Layla suddenly found herself at a loss for words.
After hanging up, Stephen turned to the now slightly sobered Layla. She stood there in her bath towel, blinking at Stephen in a daze.
Stephen chuckled and walked over to her, gently placing his hand on her head and giving it a soft pat. “Don’t worry. I wasn’t cheating on you
Meanwhile, back at the hotel, Regina set down her phone with a smile on her lips. “Alright, I’ve discovered a perk of having Layla around. She’s forcing Stephen to admit our relationship as siblings.”
Just as she was about to head to the bathroom and prepare for bed, her phone rang
