Chapter 94
“I’ll say it again, I wasn’t jealous. Don’t you dare accuse me of that,” Layla insisted, her voice carrying a hint of diffidence as she tried to reinforce her point.
Stephen adjusted his driving posture and rested his right arm on the console, steering the wheel with one hand.
He quickly glanced at Layla in the passenger seat and went along with her. “Alright, I misspoke this moming.”
Layla avolded his gaze. “So exactly is your sister? I thought you were an orphan, so where did this sister come from? Why didn’t I know?”
Last night, she had been arguing with Stephen about this very issue. While lying in bed, she had petulantly nudged his arm. “Stephen, if you don’t honestly explain, don’t think about sleeping in my bed tonight.”
But Stephen lay there as if glued to the bed, not budging an inch while she pushed. He simply laid down and went straight to sleep.
Left with no choice last night, Layla resumed her questioning today while he was driving, knowing he couldn’t feign sleep.
“Tell me, where did this sister come from? Did you find your family? How did you find them?” Clearly, Layla was more concerned about his family situation than his side chick issues.
When she had suspected Stephen of cheating, she was furious. But when she inquired about his family, hertone was much gentler,
Stephen noticed the subtle shift in her demeanor.
When they stopped at a red light, he turned to look at her and saw the anxiety and concern in her eyes. He asked half–jokingly, “Are you afraid that if I find my family, I’ll have more reason to take over the Murray Group?”
Layla froze on the spot. She hadn’t even considered the possibility that Stephen might seize control of her company.
The next second, she huffed. “Exactly! If you’ve found your family, hurry up and move out of my Yates name.”

Stephen continued to watch Layla stubbornly holding her ground, a smile tugging at his lips.
Seeing him staring at her, Layla felt a bit uneasy. “So is she really your biological sister? When have you found your family?”
After a brief pause, Stephen slowly replied, “She’s my sister by choice, not by blood. I never searched for the family that abandoned me.”
For some reason, Layla felt relieved when she heard that. “Oh, so she’s not your real sister.”
Stephen didn’t miss the relaxation in her expression. His gaze remained on her as he continued, “You’ve been asking me repeatedly, are you afraid that if I find my family and have a new one, I’ll leave you and Grandpa?”
Layla rolled her eyes in defiance and snapped back, “Dream on. If you want to leave, just do it
it already. I can’t wait for you to go.”
Deep down, she felt more confident arguing with him, knowing he hadn’t found his family.
Perhaps somewhere in her heart, she understood that Stephen and Robert were the only two people in the world who would never leave her, no matter how much trouble she caused.
Despite her harsh words and often hurting Stephen, there was a strange trust in her heart toward him.
The light turned green, and Stephen started the car to drive through the intersection.
Layla continued asking “Why haven’t you looked for your family?
“I have you and Grandpa, that’s enough for me.” After that, the car was filled with silence.
Layla started to feel a bit guilty. Her mind replayed memories of when she had been unreasonable, stubbom, and bullied Stephen over the years. She couldn’t help but feel that she owed him an apology
Stephen drove straight to the entrance of the sales office, not bothering to hide anything now. Now that Layla’s identity was known, it was necessary for him to make an appearance.
