Chapter 10
When Martin entered the vehicle, Natalie couldn’t contain her curiosity. “What were you talking about?”
“Nothing. I simply asked an acquaintance about the situation,” Martin replied.
“Did you ask the police to summon them?” Natalie pointed at the family of three that had just entered the police station.
“Who are they?” Martin asked.
“They’re the family who occupied my apartment,” Natalie answered.
“Oh, maybe they called the police and were brought here to answer questions, Martin said.
Natalie thought Martin’s words made sense and didn’t ask anything more
When they arrived home, Natalie received a call from the police, saying the family agreed to move out three days later
Natalie was in disbelief. ‘Since when did the police become so efficient she wondered
She joyfully told Martin the good news. He was scrolling through his phone on the couch. Without even raising his head, he just hummed in
response.
Natalie then seized the opportunity to ask when he could give her the 100 thousand dollars he promised.
He
put
down his phone. “Your apartment isn’t worth that much. After excluding the loan and other fees, you won’t get 100 thousand dollars. How can you prove that you’ll pay me back in full!” he responded.
He was right. After deducting the fees, she’d only get 80,000 dollars at most.
the
Natalie found it difficult to answer his question. She stammered for a while. “I’m taking the test to be a certified practicing accountant. If I pass t examination, I can get a job with a higher salary.”
Martin obviously didn’t believe her, thinking she was merely stalling for time. However, he’d keep his word. “I will transfer the money to your account tomorrow morning,” he said. “But you have to keep our prenuptial agreement a secret. Don’t let Grandpa find out.” He put forward a new condition.
Natalie was more than willing to concur.
The next day, Martin went to the company. The first thing he did upon arriving was summon Tobias, the head of the HR department. Martin asked him to inform Samuel that the company could promote him to the technical department, but he had to drop a 20,000–dollar confidentiality deposit first. Upon full payment of the deposit, he’d be transferred there at once.
Tobras, being an intelligent and capable employer, was curious why Martin paid so much attention to a new employee. Samuel had only been in the company for a few days and his positions had been changed several times. Martin even found various excuses to make things difficult for Samuel Tobias had been with the company for years and had never heard of this “confidentiality deposit thing.
He finally learned the consequences of offending Martin.
Meanwhile, Samuel was overjoyed with the 20,000 dollars he had just received. He was still frustrated at the fact that he didn’t get to buy Hailey a ring. This time, he finally bested Natalie. The total rent he had paid over the years exceeded 20,000 dollars, a bargain for Natalie indeed.
Checking his bank balance, Samuel was all pumped up. He rang Hailey with a big smile, telling her the company had given him this month’s pay up front. They could get that ring after work.
Hailey was elated. Now she’d have something to show off and get under Natalie’s skin again.
Yet things didn’t always go as planned.
Immediately after ending the call, Samuel received a notice from the Hit department. They wanted 20,000 dollars for the “confidentiality deposit” If he was going to switch jobs. His salary would yarrai 2,000 dallars, subject to adjustments based on his performance.
Enraged, Samuel cursed out loud. He didn’t even get to hold on to the 20,000 dollars for long.
However, he also thought it was a pity to relinquish this opportunity.
He believed that with his ability, he could easily raise his salary to around 10.000 dollars a month. Yet, he had promised Hailey he’d buy her the ring.
Tugging at his hair in frustration, he finally decided to transfer first
He’d postpone buying the ring, crusting that Hailey would understand.
Chapter 10
In Mercy Hospital, Natalie rushed to the counter to settle the bills right after receiving money from Martin.
However, they informed her that Nadine’s surgery fee had been paid.
Natalie checked the card owner’s name, realizing it was Hansen.
The surgery cost nearly 100 thousand dollars, which was an astronomical amount. She wondered, “Why did Hansen do that? He didn’t even mention it to me. Are all doctors this kind and helpful?”
Natalie ran into Hansen at the ward. He was checking on Nadine.
“Ms. Lewis, the date of your grandmother’s surgery is set, which is next Wednesday. Everything will be carried out as planned,” said Hansen.
Thank you for settling the bill for me. I’ve gathered enough money, so I’ll pay you back now,” Natalie offered.
Hansen’s expression stiffened for a second before he forced a smile, “No worries. Your grandmother’s surgery is more important than anything else,” he assured.
Yet, Natalie insisted on transferring the money to him. Just then, Hansen received a call.
The caller was loud, and Natalie thought it sounded like Kimberly, who was questioning Hansen if he had covered Nadine’s surgery fees.
Hansen covered the phone and hurried toward his office.
Natalie thought of talking to him later and went to visit Nadine first.
Kimberly was still rattling on after Hansen entered his office. Too annoyed to entertain her, Hansen slammed his phone on the desk. After a while, the phone finally quieted down.
He opened the drawer and took out a photo of himself with a girl. She looked pure and sweet, resembling Natalie. Her name was Sarah Hughes, Hansen’s first love, who had died of cancer at the age of 20.
Since her death, Hansen’s determination to become a doctor grew. He vowed to cure more cancer patients to prevent their families from suffering the same pain he did.
At noon, Natalie transferred Hansen the money.
gery was scheduled in two days, and she required Natalie’s constant accompaniment. Hence, Natalie had to organize her affairs in
Nadine’s surgery
advance
In the afternoon, Natalie returned to the company. Hailey wasn’t there. She was later told that Hailey’s boyfriend had taken her to buy a huge diamond ring.
When it was almost time to get off work, Natalie had already applied for leave and handed over her tasks at hand. Hailey, wearing a mask, returned before Natalie left. The corner of her eye appeared swollen, like someone had beaten her.
Hailey entered the office with a medical card and saw Natalie standing at the door. “What are you looking at?” Hailey snapped.
“I have a question for you,” said Natalie.
“I’m too busy for your nonsense,” Hailey huffed,
“Do you know Samuel rented my apartment out!” Natalie questioned.
Hailey was s
shocked. “Samuel rented your apartment out? When did that happen
“A few days ago,” Natalie answered.
“How much did he charge?” Hailey clenched her jaw in anger.
Natalie told her the amount,
“That jerk! No wonder he said he’d buy me that diamond ring. He even lied to me, saying the company paid his salary in advance, but then he said. be lent the money to his friend. That Harf” Hailey stomped her foot and stormed out of the company.
