Chapter 11
Natalie guessed Samuel might be downstairs at the company and followed Hailey immediately.
As expected, Natalie heard a fierce quarrel between Samuel and Hailey upon arriving downstairs.
“Samuel!” Natalie shouted, storming over to him.
As soon as Samuel saw Natalie, he grabbed Hailey’s hand and took off Natalie chased after them through several streets but lost them eventually. Then, she received a call from Martin, summoning her to return at once.
Natalie thought something had happened to Timothy and hurriedly took a cab back to the Sent residence.
She could sense something was wrong upon entering the room. Martin was sitting in the couch, his face terrifyingly gloomy.
“What is it? What happened?” Natalie asked,
“Natalie, what did you promise me?” Martin’s voice was particularly frigid.
“What did 1 promise? Natalie repeated confusedly.
“You promised not to let Grandpa find out about the prenuptial agreement. Not only did he know about it now, but he also refused to accept the follow–up treatment Martin huffed.
Martin tossed Natalie’s part of
of the prenuptial agreement in front of her and said, “Please give me an explanation.”
“How could this be? Natalie untered as she felt the seriousness of the matter, but she honestly did not know how her agreement found its way into Timothy’s hands.
“Grandpa said he found the agreement stuffed between the newspapers he was reading this morning. Then, he asked Charlotte about it, and she said you were the one who handed Grandpa the newspapers,” Martin explained.
“Yes, I did, but I didn’t put the agreement inside” Natalie was totally unaware of it. She asked, “Why would I do that? Could it be Charlotte?”
“That’s impossible. Our bedroom door is always locked, and Charlotte has no access. Even if she does, how could she know where the agreement is? Also, how could it benefit her by doing this? Martin raised his voice, following Natalie’s anxiousness. She argued, “Then, how does it benefit me by doing this?”
“Of course, it benefits you. You don’t want to divorce me in half a year and want to have a baby with me. You want the property rights of the courtyard house. Am I right?” Martin scoffed.
Martin was glad Natalie did not know his true identity, or she would continue pestering him
Natalie was shocked by his words, wondering. What made him so confident? Why does he think I’d want to have his baby for merely a house? How ridiculous!
“Look, I never planned on having your kid, and I sure don’t want your crummy little house. I might be broke, but I’ve got my pride, okay? Everyone’s got their limits. So, stop treating me like dirt, Natalie fired back,
Martin narrowed his eyes coldly. “You didn’t do it?”
“I’m not that despicable.” Natalie scoffed.
Just then, Martin’s phone rang. He glanced at the number on his phone display and exited the room to answer the call.
Natalie walked into the room and looked at the drawer on the bedside table, where she had initially placed her prenuptial agreement.
She then glanced at the micro surveillance camera she had installed above the door.
She turned on her phone and checked the surveillance footage in the morning. At 10:08 am., Charlotte had entered their room.
The camera missed the spot by the bedside table. Natalie only caught sight of Charlotte clutching something as she left. Natalie was sure she had locked up that morning. “How did Charlotte get in she wondered.
Natalie saved the video quietly. Charlotte would never admit it without irrefutable evidence.
Meanwhile, the police called Natalie out of the blue, letting her know they nabbed the guy who illegally rented out her place. They wanted her to wwing by the station.
At 7:30 pm., Natalie arrived at the police station. Samuel and Hailey were there too.
When Samuel uw Natalie, he flipped out. “Natalie, I didn’t expect you to be so mean. We were together for three years and you have the nerve to call the cops on me? What kind of person are your” he snapped.

ot more heated, he nearly tried to slap Natalie.
As Samuel got
Natalie dodged him and looked at him in disbelief. She couldn’t wrap her head around how low a person could go.
The police pushed Samuel down into his seat, “Hey, what do you think you’re doing? A guy hitting a girl, have you lost all shame! This is a police station, not your personal boxing ring With that said, the police officer led Natalie to a separate room to record her testimony
After some mediation from the police, Natalie agreed to settle things with Samuel.
Samuel was also willing to return the 20,000–dollar rent and write a statement of repentance, apologizing to Natalie in front of the police
Considering their relationship as ex–lovers, the police did not hold Samuel against the law.
The three left the police station together.
Hailey was exasperated and filled with resentment. She was angry that Samuel concealed the truth from her and loathed Natalie for disregarding her past relationship with Samuel, almost causing the latter to leave a criminal record
“Stop right there, Natalie Hailey shouted at Natalie as soon as they stepped outside.
“What?” Natalie asked.
“Seeing as we’re both classmates, do you really have to drag Samuel to ruins for a mere 20,000 dollars?” Hailey snapped.
Hearing this, Natalie flared up with anger. “That’s easy for you to say. Hailey. My grandma is lying in the hospital, waiting to be saved by the money from selling the apartment, but Samuel used that money to buy a ring for you. How could you even do that?” Natalie shot back.
“Shut up, Natalie. I have paid you the rent for so many years. What’s wrong with taking some interest back! Samuel roared.
“Bullshit!” Natalie was trembling from anger and scoffed. “You may have paid for rent for many years, but do you know how much you spent on bars, nightclubs, and games in a month?”
“I made thousands of dollars a month. What’s the big deal about splurging a bit? And you, tricking me into paying your rent, using my dough for your family!” Samuel said.
“Samuel!” Natalie was too exasperated to speak.
ding. She wanted him to save some money up for their future
She deceived Samuel into paying rent because he had no control over his spending.
marriage.
‘Heh… Natalie scoffed inwardly, tears welling up in her eyes.
It felt like maybe luck was on her side, showing her Samuel’s true face.
“Samuel, you d
think I ever spent your money on my family? Would you believe me if I said I hadn’t?” she asked.
“Who’d believe you? You were attracted to me back then because I made a lot of money, didn’t you? Then you got all cold when I lost my job. nagging non–stop. I’m so over it!” Samuel roared. His face was twisted with anger.
It hurt Natalie to see him like this, not because he’d stabbed her in the back, but because it seemed like all her hard work over the years was not
worth it.
Turning away
y with a heavy heart, she heard a car zooming at her. She was about to jump clear when someone shoved her from behind right towards the speeding ride.
The screech of brakes was deafening as Natalie hit the ground, the car stopping just shy of her.
Natalie was thoroughly frightened. She turned around and saw Samuel and Hailey running away in a hurry.
Her heart ached deeper than before..
“Are you okay?” the driver asked after getting out of the car.
The vote sounded familiar. Natalie raised her head and found it was 1
