Chapter 26
It was about three o’clock in the afternoon when they arrived at the Dusone Airport. There was still more than an hour before the end of the exhibition of the auctioned items.
Someone came to pick them up as soon as they got off the plane. Angela was not surprised.
The Louise Group was the most powerful company in Tervais, which meant that it was also one of the top companies in Darsonas.
It would be really difficult for her to take back Gem from Pierre!
But she secretly cheered herself up. No matter how difficult it was, she could not give up. This was what her mother had left her. It was her mother’s life’s work!
Thinking of this, she couldn’t help glancing at Pierre with sharp eyes.
Pierre had been resting with his eyes closed since he got in the car. He seemed to feel her gaze and suddenly opened his eyes. There was no trace of fatigue in them, only shrewdness.
Angela couldn’t help but shiver. She had to admit that this man was quite intimidating.
She wanted to sit in the passenger seat, but Hank opened the door of the back seat for her before she got in and said, “Please, Miss Simpson.”
When they arrived at the exhibition hall, Angela deliberately fell half a step behind Pierre. This was not only a matter of workplace etiquette, but also because she instinctively wanted to stay away from this cold man.
However, her attitude changed as soon as she saw the necklace named the Galaxy.
The necklace was inside a glass box, shining brightly under the spotlight.
Angela was immediately drawn to it. The necklace seemed to have such a mysterious power that she couldn’t take her eyes off it.
As a jewelry designer and the owner of an auction house, Angela had seen at least several million pieces of jewelry, if not tens of millions.
But there were very few items like this one that could attract her at a glance.
Who had found this perfect gem? What designer created such an exquisite necklace? What family had collected it? How did this necklace come to be auctioned off?
Pierre seemed to be looking at other items leisurely, but he kept paying attention to Angela out of the corner of his eye.
It was beyond his expectations how focused she was on the Galaxy.
Both of them had seen the description of the Galaxy and the high–definition pictures.
Angela seemed to be obsessed with the necklace. Perhaps this was the reason why she could become the world’s top jewelry designer in just a few
years.
Pierre began to cool down.
The auction would start at eight o’clock in the evening. And it would be after 11 o’clock when the Galaxy, the finale, went up for auction.
The starting price for the Galaxy was 160 million dollars. That was not very high, as all the experts knew.
So someone quickly raised their paddle, and soon others started bidding on it.
Pierre just watched. He had not raised his paddle during the entire auction. It seemed that he had brought Angela here only to enrich her experience.
Not long after, the price of the Galaxy reached 20 million dollars. Only then did Pierre signal Hank to raise his paddle.
But soon their prices were exceeded as well.
The auctioneer shouted on the stage, “No. 98, 22 million dollars!”
Hank raised the paddle again.
The auctioneer cried out in excitement, “No, 58, 23 million dollars!
“No. 67, 23.5 million dollars.
“No. 98, 24 million dollars!”

Now, it was very obvious that three people were competing for this lot.
Hank raised the paddle seriously and expressionlessly.
Angela couldn’t help but look at the relaxed man next to her. He was still indifferent and at case as if the price Hank offered was just a number.
Angela looked again at the number 67 bidder and was surprised to see that it was a young lady.
She looked at the number 98 bidder. It was a young man with black–framed glasses and a serious look.
Angela sighed with emotion that the youth of today were so outstanding! She was one of them, but there was a big gap between her and them…
While she was secretly encouraging herself, the bid for the Galaxy reached 34 million dollars.
It was the young lady who offered that price. The young man did not hesitate and immediately raised the price to 36 million dollars.
On Pierre’s orders, Hank raised the price to 40 million dollars.
The auctioneer liked this kind of bidding the best. He shouted from the stage, “40 million dollars! Will you give me more? 40 million dollars. Going once.”
The auctioneer raised the gavel high and began to describe the Galaxy.
Angela could clearly feel everyone’s eyes on them.
So she looked at Pierre as well, playing her role as an onlooker.
“Do I look good?”
Angela was complacent about what she was doing when she heard this and was taken aback.
“What? Mr. Louise, are you asking me?”
“You’re looking at me,” Pierre said coldly.
Angela gave a fake laugh. “Everyone is looking at you.”
The implication was that she didn’t want to look at him but was just following the public’s eyes.
Angela wanted to say that he was good–looking, but considering his cold attitude, she decided not to say it.
At this time, the auctioneer said, “40 million dollars, going twice!”
As he was about to pound his gavel, the young man suddenly raised his paddle and said, “50 million dollars!”
Suddenly, the crowd fell silent before gasping.
Pierre sat up straight and glanced at the young man.
Hank looked at Pierre and asked, “Mr. Louise, do you want me to make another bid?”
“No,” Pierre said flatly.
Angela understood that the young man was determined to get it because the bid increment this time was too large.
But she couldn’t understand why Pierre would give up so easily. Didn’t he like the Galaxy very much? Was he sure he’d be fine returning from this auction empty–handed?
At the end of the auction, the young man with black–framed glasses walked over.
“Thank you for letting me have this. How should I address you?”
The young man was very polite. He also took out his business card and handed it over to Pierre.
“Here’s my card.”
Pierre took it and introduced himself in a cold tone, “Pierre Louise. I’m not in the habit of bringing business cards.”
The young man nodded with a smile and said, “I know you, Mr. Louise. But I’ve only heard of you. I’m so lucky to meet you today. You deserve your reputation!”
The two of them exchanged a few more pleasantries before the young man politely took his leave.

Angela looked at Pierre with surprise. He was not as arrogant and cold as Elsie had said.
Since he was able to run such a big business, he must know how to deal with people.
While she was still thinking, Hank saw the man’s business card that Pierre had just given him and said, “It’s him!”
Pierre tilted his head slightly and glanced at Hank, who shut up sensibly.
This aroused Angela’s curiosity. Who was this bespectacled guy? He made Hank, who had seen many big shots, lose his composure.
She was very curious but too embarrassed to ask, so she couldn’t help looking back at the young man.
Coincidentally, the young man happened to be looking at them. He also noticed Angela. It was hard not to notice such a beautiful woman!
The young man nodded politely at her in greeting.
“What? Are you reluctant to part with him?”
A cold male voice rang above Angela’s head.
She knew it was Pierre without looking over.
She took a deep breath and revealed a professional smile.
“Mr. Louise, are we going to the airport?” she asked.
