Chapter 104
“Listen to your mother. Don’t bother showing off your mediocre skills in front of me.” Steven left without paying further attention to Yanny.
“You’re the one with mediocre skills! Stop right there!” Yanny yelled insults, but Steven ignored her.
“Mom, what’s going on? Did you cure his eyes?” Yanny asked.
Marrie shook her head. “No.”
“Then who did? Did he also seriously injure Heidi? How is that possible? Heidi is a third–grade expert!” Yanny was completely baffled.
“That night, he was thrown into Levix River and rescued by a master. Not only were his eyes healed, but he was taught martial arts,” Marrie explained.
“That scumbag sure is lucky! He’s got more luck than he deserves!” Yanny looked resentful as she said this.
“Yanny, don’t provoke him anymore. We should leave each other be,” Marrie advised.
“Mom, we can hire experts to get rid of him. Otherwise, he’ll come after us. After all, we mistreated him these past two years,” Yanny said viciously.
“Enough! You don’t need to worry about this. Just remember what I’ve said.” Marrie grew serious. “A lot is happening at the company, and I’m busy. Don’t come home unless necessary. Stay at the school dorms.”
Losing Twilight Group’s partnership had caused Marrie significant troubles.
Shareholders put pressure on her, while other partner companies wavered. They delayed payments or terminated contracts, leaving Marrie in a tough spot.
“Mom, I don’t want to stay at school. I can keep you company at home,” Yanny whined.
“Doesn’t my word matter anymore?” Marrie asked coldly.
Yanny didn’t dare argue further. “Okay… Okay, I’ll return to school tomorrow morning.”
“Go now.”
Left with no choice, Yanny pouted and left.
“What’s up with Mom lately? She’s been acting so weird. Could it be early menopause? Seems I better find her a new partner soon,” Yanny decided to take matters into her own hands and find a stepfather.
Steven didn’t leave the neighborhood. After Yanny drove off, he returned to the house.
Marrie sat on the couch, one hand on her forehead, looking fatigued.
“You seem tired,” Steven said as he sat beside her.
“I’m fine.” Marrie mustered her energy.
“Let me give you a massage. It’ll help relieve your fatigue,” Steven said.
Steven stepped behind Marrie. His fingers expertly found her pressure points and applied precise force.
Marrie gradually relaxed, closing her eyes in comfort.
After over ten minutes, Marrie was nearly asleep.
“Mmm… That feels so good.” She stood up and stretched lazily, suddenly feeling refreshed and rejuvenated.
“I didn’t know you could massage. Your technique is better than the professionals at the spa.”
“There’s a lot you’ll discover I can do.” Steven smiled. “I haven’t eaten dinner yet. It’s been ages since I had your cooking. I gave you a massage, so how about you make me a meal?”
“You used to complain that my cooking was terrible. Isn’t Aunt Pinky’s cooking better?” Marrie teased.
“Ah, the follies of youth.” Steven chuckled. “You know what they say. We often fail to appreciate what’s before us until it slips away.”
“Smooth–talker.” Marrie rolled her eyes, went upstairs, and changed into a sexy slip–dress. She also had the sudden air of a domestic diva after tying her hair back.
Steven followed her to the kitchen. Marrie wasn’t skilled at cooking anything fancy, so she settled for simple home–cooked dishes.
Steven hugged her from behind.
“What are you doing? Let go. Don’t you want me to cook for you?” Marrie protested.
“I don’t want an omelet,” Steven said.
“Well, what do you want? I may not know how to cook it,” Marrie replied.
“I want to eat…”
