Chapter 39 Ridiculing Him
Jordan didn’t slow down. Instead, he sped up, racing the car down the road like an arrow. The world outside became a blur of lights and colors, all left behind in their wake.
Sabrina’s nauses worsened, and she reached out to grab his arm. “Jordan Ford, stop the car!”
But Sabrina couldn’t hold it in any longer. She vomited all over his lap
The world seemed to fall into a deafening silence. The mess seeped into his tailored suit pants, dripping onto the floor mat. A vein throbbed in Jordan’s temple, his patience stretched to its breading point,
“Sabrina Tucker”
She wiped her mouth with the comer of his suit jacket and said innocently, “That’s what you get for not stopping. I warned you twice!
She gagged again, quickly covering her mouth to hold back another wave of nausea. By then, Jacob had had enough. He swerved over to the side of the road, slammed on the brakes, and brought the car to a sharp stop.
“Get out!”
Sabrina pushed the door open and stumbled to the curb, where she continued to cetch. So much for dinner.
Once she was sure she was done, she stood up slowly, only to see a bottle of water and a pack of tissues being handed to her.
Sabrina blinked in surprise. “You’re still here?
She took the water, rinsed out her mouth, and wiped her face clean with the tissues. Finally, she felt much better.
“Get in the car.”
“You can go ahead. I’ll call a cab.” Now that they’d signed the divorce papers, Sabrina was determined to cut ties with Jacob and didn’t want to ride with him
anymore.
Jacob’s expression darkened. “I have something to say,”
“Haven’t we already said everything that needed to be said? Or are you having second thoughts and want to reconcile?”
“My grandmother is coming back.”
Linda? Sabrina frowned. “When?”
“Monday”
That soon? Today was Thursday, which left them just three days before she was due to arrive.
Jordan pulled out a cigarette, placing it between his lips. With a flick, a soft blue flame danced at the end, igniting the cigarette.
Smoke curled around him, blurring his chiseled features, malding it hard to read his expression. “Mom Insisted that we go pick her up.”
His words abruptly silenced Sabrina.
“You promised we’d finalize everything this week. Are you planning to drag me into more of your charades, pretending everything’s fine for your grandmother’s
“I’m not interested in playing along. Why don’t you just tell them the truth? It’s going to come out eventually. And since you’re going to marry Valerie, this could be the perfect opportunity to introduce her to your grandmother.”
No ex–wife could be more gracious than Sabrina, who was advising her ex–husband on how to introduce his beloved to his grandmother.
Linda was the highest authority in the Ford family. If she accepted Valerie, the rest would follow suit without question.
Jordan’s eyes narrowed “Now isn’t the time. Grandma has grown attached to you. She won’t easily let you go. If you try to leave now, it’ll only cause more trouble.” Back then, Sabrina had gone above and beyond to become the perfect granddaughter–in–law, winning over Linda who had initially disapproved of her. Eventually, she even became the matriarch’s favorite, surpassing even her granddaughter, Emily.
Except for Jordan, everyone in the family genuinely cared for Sabrina. The last thing she wanted was to see the elderly woman hurt.
“Jordan, one lie leads to another. Even if I play along with your act, what then? How do you think Valerie will feel?
“Last time, she resorted to petty tricks like spiking my coffee just to get me out of the picture sooner.”
jordan frowned and said flatly, “She didn’t mean it. I apologize to you on her behalf.”
Sabrina’s eyes turned ley at his words. “If anyone should be apologizing, it’s Valerie. Who are you to apologize on her behalf?”
At that moment, a Maserall screeched to a halt beside their car. Zayn stepped out and walked over to place himself between Sabrina and Jordan.
He rated his chin up, a defiant edge in his voice. “Jorlan, didn’t you two already get divorced? Why are you still harassing Brina?”
