Chapter 42 Delayed
“Jordan, you’re here!”
Knowing that Jordan was coming today, Valerie had made an extra effort to look presentable, even putting on a light makeup to show him her best side.
“How have you been feeling lately?”
“I’m doing well. After the acupuncture from the Miracle Doctor, I feel so much more energized!”
“That’s good to hear. The Miracle Doctor said that after one full round of treatment, the toxins in your body will be completely cleared.”
“Yeah. Can you come with me next time? Last time, you had Adrian take me, and the Miracle Doctor was really rough. I ended up fainting from the pain.”
Valerie’s eyes turned red, making her look particularly vulnerable. “I kept thinking how nice it would be if you were there with me.”
Jordan’s gaze lingered on her face for a moment before he softly reassured her, “Even if I were there, I wouldn’t be able to go in with you. Don’t you remember the Miracle Doctor’s rules?”
During the treatment, no one else was allowed in the room. What a ridiculous rule!
“But it would still make me feel at ease to know that you’re downstairs.”
Jordan, who was peeling an apple, casually asked, “Did you get to see what the Miracle Doctor looks like?”
“No. She always wears a veil.”
“Hmm.”
“Jordan.” Valerie hesitated, her eyes darting around. “About the incident with Ms. Tucker throwing coffee on me, did you have any trouble-” “What do you want me to do?”
Jordan paused in his actions, meeting her gaze. Her dark eyes seemed to see right through her, easily uncovering her hidden thoughts.
Valerie quickly looked down. “I just hope you won’t have any conflicts with Ms. Tucker.”
“You’re quite understanding,” Jordan said as he handed her the apple.
Valerie felt a mix of emotions when she heard the compliment. She bit her lip and continued, “But Ms. Tucker is being unreasonable. She calls me a mistress, yet we knew each other first. She only came along later, so why does she get to insult me?”
As Valerie spoke, tears began to fall, making her look truly pitiful. Suddenly, she reached out and tugged at Jordan’s sleeve. “Jordan, when are you going to finalize the paperwork with her?”
Jordan’s expression darkened. “Soon.”
However, his response didn’t reassure Valerie. She wished that Jordan would cut ties with Sabrina immediately.
She was eager to take Sabrina’s place. She had waited so long to marry Jordan and become Mrs. Ford, the rightful mistress of the Ford family.
This time, Valerie wasn’t as understanding and pressed for details. “How long would it take?”
Jordan’s eyes swept over her. “Grandma is coming back, so the divorce will have to be delayed.”
Delayed? How could Valerie not feel anxious about that?
“Jordan, didn’t you say you’d finalize the divorce this week?” She blinked back tears, her voice trembling.
“Your grandma will find out about your situation anyway. Why don’t you take this opportunity to be honest with her? Or do you have feelings for Sabrina and can’t bear to go through with it?”
Valerie covered her face and cried. “What am I supposed to do? I’ve already waited three years. Am I supposed to keep waiting indefinitely?”
She had already waited until Sam had passed away. Was‘ she supposed to wait until Linda was gone too? Valerie was losing her patience.
“Valerie, you should know my grandma’s temperament. If I were to reveal everything now and bring you before her, she wouldn’t accept you.
“I don’t want to become enemies with my grandma. You’re an understanding girl. You wouldn’t want me to have a falling out with my family, right?”
Valerie froze. Even though she wanted to protest, she couldn’t find the words when faced with Jordan’s intense gaze.
She knew Jordan was a filial person who valued family ties. If she loved him, she should consider his feelings rather than press him relentlessly.
“Jordan, I certainly don’t want to make things difficult for you. I can wait, no matter how long it takes, but there has to be a deadline, right? Do you want me to be with you without any recognition?”
