Chapter 48 Taking You to Court
“Dad died in your hospital, so how can it not be your fault? You’re clearly trying to dodge responsibility with what you’re saying. Do you really think I wanted Dad to die just to mess with you?”
After saying that, Charles indignantly added, “I’m reaching out to the media to expose this unqualified and fraudulent doctor.”
Troy kept trying to soothe Charles. Meanwhile, despite being the victim of the slander, Sabrina was exceptionally calm.
“Please answer my question directly. If it’s not the hospital’s responsibility, are you willing to apologize to me publicly?”
Sabrina didn’t show even an ounce of fear. With unwavering confidence, she kept her back straight and exuded an imposing presence.
Under the gaze of so many people, Charles reluctantly replied, “Alright. If it turns out that it’s not your fault, I’ll apologize for any earlier inappropriate behavior and false accusations.”
Charles was confident that Sabrina couldn’t find any evidence against him.
There was a woman who approached him earlier. According to her, Sabrina never attended a proper medical college. On top of that, Sabrina didn’t finish high school and got into the hospital through connections.
As Sabrina walked forward, Charles instinctively took a step back when he saw her coming.
“What are you trying to do?”
“Let me through. I need to examine Eric.”
“He’s already dead because of you. What’s the point of examining him now?”
“Since you’re claiming it’s my fault that Eric passed away, shouldn’t I have the right to verify it? After all, I’m the person involved. Or do you expect everyone to just take your word for it?
“Or is there something else you’re hiding by not letting me examine him? Are you feeling unconfident about something? What are you afraid of?”
The crowd started murmuring again. Charles‘ expression darkened as he backed away and made way.
“I’ve nothing to be afraid of. Go ahead and check all you want. You don’t have any qualifications, and you’re just putting on a show. What difference is your examination going to make?”
Eric’s body was already covered with a white sheet. His face and lips were pale. It looked like he had been dead for a while.
After the surgery yesterday, Eric’s face didn’t look like that at all. At that moment, his cheeks were rosy, and he had a healthy complexion. All he needed was to wake up and recover. Afterward, he could have lived the rest of his life peacefully.
With mixed emotions, Sabrina carefully examined Eric’s dead body. When she was done, she knitted her brows together.
“Eric died from a lack of oxygen, Mr. Gardner. He suffocated to death. I’d like to know, did you tamper with the oxygen machine when you stayed overnight at the hospital yesterday?”
“That’s nonsense. He’s my dad! Are you implying that I would turn off the oxygen machine and kill him?”
Fuming with anger, Charles snapped, “I sold my house to pay for his surgery. If I didn’t care about him, would I have gone that far? I could have just let him die at
home.
“As a doctor, how can you say something so vile? That’s it. I’m taking you to court.”
Despite facing Charles‘ furious accusation, Sabrina remained completely unfazed. The onlookers started chattering.
“Can you believe a doctor would say that? We’ve all seen how much Charles cares about Eric over the past few days. Charles fed him, bathed him, brought him water, and helped him when he peed. He even told me how good Charles is to him. How could Charles kill him?”
“I agree. The doctor’s words are infuriating. I can tell she is trying to push the blame and avoid taking responsibility.”
“Didn’t he say the doctor is unqualified? Has the hospital standards dropped so low that they’ll hire anyone as a doctor?”
“Look at how pretty she is. It wouldn’t be surprising if she got the job because of her looks.”
All sorts of rumors and guesses started to surface. Soon enough, everyone was on Charles‘ side. Even the hospital’s nurses and doctors started to doubt her. Troy was panicking. “What nonsense are you spewing? Sabrina is far more skilled than you realize. Is being pretty a crime now?”
