Chapter 27: The Old Colleague
William was also taken aback by surprise when he recognized the woman approaching him.
“Kate…?”
Kate was his colleague at the Waste Management company and one of the few persons who never looked down on him.
She would always buy food for him whenever he was done with his shift for the day and had tried to get their boss to promote him several times.
Unlike him, she was a customer care agent who got to sit in front of a screen in a beautiful office.
Kate had suddenly disappeared from work one day and all efforts to find her since then proved futile.
Kate got close to him and whispered so no one would hear her. “William. Is this you? What are you doing here?”
There was a concern all over her small face.
William Miller smiled happily on seeing this old friend of his.
“Kate, where have you been? I’ve searched everywhere for you”
She tried to keep her head down and stammered, “It’s a long story, William”
“Kate, how dare you bring your boyfriend to work?” A female voice suddenly roared from behind.
It was the fiesty saleswoman, Mia.
She moved forward with the other saleswoman who began to throw words at
the duo.
“I knew it, he couldn’t afford anything here”
“So it was you who invited him here? You think highly of yourself now because you got a boyfriend”
“He’s a useless boyfriend as I can see. Mia, he is the perfect match for you”

The women laughed together.
Kate gritted her teeth amidst the insults from her colleague and managed to say, “Don’t say nonsense. I don’t have a boyfriend. He is a good friend of mine where I used to work”
Mia laughed hysterically. “Are you ashamed of him. For you to quickly deny him this way? Kate, all of us know that you cannot get a good boyfriend to take care of you. This is the best you can ever get”
Kate couldn’t say a word and could only keep her head down.
William displeased as he watched Kate’s colleague bully her.
was
He could tell from the beginning when they called Kate to attend to him because he looked poor.
One thing he hated was bullying and trampling on people because you think of yourself as superior to them.
“Kate, I’m here to buy the most expensive car. Can I see what this place has to offer?” William was prepared to teach these arrogant women a lesson and make Kate significant in everyone’s eyes.
The saleswoman burst into uncontrolled laughter after they heard him speak.
“Kate, did your boyfriend get drunk before coming here?”
“He must have hit his head against something and got a few screws loose in his head”
“Maybe he wants us to think he’s rich. This man is a clown“.
“Kate, if you break up with this clown of a man now, we’ll definitely hook you up with a good man to take care of you”
Kate’s face flushed in embarrassment and she calmly scolded William. “What are you saying?
Π
“I’m saying that I want to buy the most expensive vehicle here today” There look of confidence on William’s face didn’t diminish a bit.
She blinked her eyes and said very low to him, “William, stop saying nonsense. I know you want to help me but this would only cause more trouble”

The William she knew was a garbage collector at the company she used to work and his salary wasn’t even up to half of hers except he had been promoted.
Even if she saved her salary for the entire year, she still wouldn’t be able to purchase the most expensive car in this place.
She understood William was trying to help her against the other saleswoman but this wasn’t going to work.
“Do you trust me?” He looked into her eyes, “Have I ever lied to you before?”
The sincerity in his eyes was unmatched and she found herself trying to believe him.
The William she knew was an honest man and he was right, he never lied to her before.
“Are you sure about this?” She inquired nervously.
“I have enough money now, Kate. Just trust me and you’ll see” William told her and she sighed heavily.
This was hard for her but she trusted William and would try to believe his words.
“Kate, take your boyfriend out of here, our big customers would think we now sell used cars if they see him here. He looks like bad news” Mia puffed her chest arrogantly as she told Kate and the other saleswomen agreed with the mod of their heads.
Kate took in a deep breath and turned to her colleagues. “Mr. Millet is here to patronize us, show him some courtesy”
She wasn’t sure where she got the courage to talk this boldly.
“Kate, how dare you talk nonsense? We are your seniors here and you must respect us. If you don’t, we won’t allow you to attend to other customers”
“Have you gone crazy like your boyfriend? You think you two can put on a good show here”
“If you don’t send him out now, we’ll report you to the manager for disrupting business here”
HIS BONUS
William stepped forward with his hands behind him. “I’m here to buy the most expensive vehicle here today. If I can’t buy it, then you can do whatever your
want”
These words of his silenced the saleswoman who began to stare at one another.
“William, do you think can deceive people here? You useless trash picker!”
The voice had come from a woman in the crowd of watching customers.
She was dressed in red attire and had expensive jewelry on her.
Beside her was a man in a red tuxedo who had his right hand pocketed and the gold wristwatch he wore gave a sense of wealth.
William frowned slightly the moment he recognized the woman.
This was Master Wilson’s youngest daughter, Natalie, and she always joined forces with his Mother–in–law to rebuke him occasionally.
Beside her was her fiancee who happened to be the manager of a Bank on the east side of New Spring City.
“Everyone, listen up, don’t be deceived by this useless person who talks
nonsense. He is my niece’s husband and she divorced him today because he’s nothing but trash. He is so poor and can’t even afford a toy car. You better call security to throw him out before he steals something here
