Chapter 50: The Loan Shark
When they arrived at the place, Kate introduced herself to the bouncers at the entrance and they allowed them to go in.
They moved through a downward staircase that went underground until they found themselves in front of another door with bouncers.
Kate did the introduction again and one of the bouncers took them in.
The room was buzzing with various activities as the waitress arranged drinks on the tables of the gamblers and continued to move with their trays.
Laughter occasionally arose from different corners and the clinking of glasses would follow.
The scent of cigarettes in the dimly lit room made Kate cough a few times as she wasn’t used to such an environment.
William was doing his calculations as he looked around the room, absorbing all the essential details that he needed.
The bouncer took them to the extreme corner at the south side of the room. where some men were clinking chips of various colors over the table.
The smell of the smoke of their cigarettes filled the area and Kate even had to cover her nose as they got closer.
“Boss,” The bouncer was the first to speak, “She claims to be here for business”
The muscular bald man at the head of the table lifted his eyes and caressed the full beard on his face.
When he saw Kate, the grin on his face grew bigger and he waved the bouncer to leave.
“I assume you have the money” Smoke poured out of his mouth as he spoke hoarsely to Kate.
The other men on the table retreated their cards and chips and stopped playing.
Kate held tight the bag in her hand and nodded. “Yes, I have the completed money. Let me see my family first”
J Terry, The loan shark Boss smiled coldly and relaxed on his chair. “As long

as you have my money, no problem”
He signaled at one of his men who was standing to the side and he left.
“Alright, Pretty, bring the money over” He beckoned at Kate who then looked over to William and he agreed with the nod of his head.
J Terry frowned at the sight of William and commented. “Hey Pretty, didn’t I ask you to come alone?”
He rose from the chair and his height overshadowed them all.
He was 5’9 and his well–defined physique was noticeable.
His broad shoulder stood high and the tattoo of a scorpion that ran up his left arm could be seen because he was wearing just a singlet.
Kate gulped for fear and she took a step back because his height was imposing but William didn’t even bathe an eye.
She hurriedly explained, “I’m sorry… He is a friend of mine. We both raised the money together”
J Terry scanned William’s outfit from head to toe and suddenly burst into laughter. “How much did he raise for you? 5 cents?”
The men with him joined in the laughter.
Kate was displeased by their behavior and she even glanced at William’s direction but to her surprise, his expression tensioned the same.
It was as if he didn’t hear what they were saying.
She dropped the bag on the table and took steps backward. “That’s the money, you can count it. It’s complete”
“Let’s hope it’s complete, Pretty” J Terry grinned hideosly and looked at Kate’s body without even hiding his behavior.
She felt embarrassed and covered her chest with her hands.
The Boss of the loan shark laughed at her action and unzipped the bag.
He poured the content over the table and wads of fine currency notes rolled and fell to the ground.

“Count the money, Boys” He commanded the other men with him and they got into action immediately.
Soon, the one who left earlier, returned with a woman who had bruises all over her face and a younger boy who wrapped himself around her right hand.
Kate’s eyes filled up with tears as she rushed over and hugged the woman.
“Mom, I’m sorry this happened to you”
“No, I should be sorry, your father did this to us. It was my fault to marry such a useless man who is obsessed with gambling” The woman who looked to be in her late 40s replied to Kate and caressed her short hair.
“Sister, those bad people beat Mum” The little boy left the arm of his mother to tug on Kate’s sleeve.
Kate sniffed bitterly and whispered, “I know, Jay. It’s not going to happen again. Everything is going to be fine, okay?”
He nodded.
She wiped the tears in her eyes and turned to the men who were still counting the money.
“I must say, I’m surprised you raised an amount like this very quickly. Did you do some shameful things to get money?” J Terry raised his brows slightly, suggesting something and this made Kate even more annoyed but she couldn’t fight back.
Getting her family back was what mattered to her.
The men finished summing the money together and nodded at their boss.
J Terry clapped his hands and chuckled. “Woah! Impressive Pretty One! The money you paid was complete. Your father’s debt is repaid now”
Kate exhaled heavily and turned to the woman beside her. “Let us go, Mum…”
She also took the hand of her little brother and was about to leave.
“Who asked you to leave?” J Terry surprisingly asked and the guards hanging around quickly stood in their way with coldness in their eyes.

J Terry continued to laugh like an insane villain in a movie and told her, “Yes, that is settled but you also have to pay a price before I allow you to leave here today. Don’t worry, it’s not expensive”
