Chapter 21
‘I promised Samuel I’d I give him an unforgettable birthday, but I can’t do that now. Please help me tell him that I’m really sorry,” Celeste explained.
Julian’s frown deepened when he heard her words.
He approached Celeste and motioned her to raise her head. His movements appeared so gentle that they blindsided Marcus beside him.
Celeste was also a little surprised. She hadn’t expected him to do that.
Julian’s expression didn’t change. He held her shoulders with both hands and said, “You can just say whatever you need to say. You don’t have to be so tense.” When Celeste felt his touch, she momentarily didn’t know how to respond. She only felt a warm sensation spreading from the place where he touched. After a moment, she was placed back on the sofa. Then, as if nothing bad happened, Julian sat down next to her and asked, “What did you mean when you said that you couldn’t do it?”
For some reason, Celeste didn’t feel nervous anymore. She apologetically said, “I’ve resigned from Creative Solutions.”
Resigned?” Julian was stunned for a moment. He seemed surprised. “Why did you resign so suddenly?”
Celeste had been fine this moming and even looked energetic! So, why did her behavior change in the span of a moming?
Celeste took a deep breath. She didn’t want to lie, so she bitterly smiled and said, “Actually, I wouldn’t call this a resignation. I should say that I was fired.” Julian’s gaze darkened, and he was clearly unhappy.
Fired? Why had that company fired her so suddenly?
However, Celeste misunderstood Julian and thought that he was angry with her for breaking her promise. She started trembling again. “I’m really sorry. I broke both of your trust in me. You can scold me or even hit me. I won’t object!”
“I don’t hit women, you know!” Julian had a subtle hint of a smile on his face. He seemed to be amused.
He said, “You don’t have to apologize. I’m sure you didn’t mean to break your promise, so you don’t have to be so hard on yourself… But I can’t give Samuel this present for you. You should give it to him when you see him next time.”
Celeste was stunned and said in disbelief, “Can I? You’re not mad at me at all? Don’t you blame me for this?”
Julian nodded slightly and said as gently as he could, “Of course not. I think Samuel would be very happy to get this gift,”
Celeste smiled at his words, and her eyes were bright like the stars in the sky. They were so brilliant that Julian couldn’t take his eyes away from her.
Julian’s gaze softened as he looked at her, and his lips unconsciously curled into a smile.
After a while, Celeste said goodbye and left. As soon as she left, Julian’s smile disappeared, and he was back to his cold and gloomy self.
Marcus was so frightened by this change that he swallowed. He had wanted to get Julian to praise him, but instead, he fearfully said, “Julian, just stay calm. Don’t change your tune so quickly. It scares me!!!
Julian glanced at him and ordered, “Look into what’s going on.
“Lookinto what?” For a moment, Marcus couldn’t figure out what Julian wanted. But soon, he understood, “Oh, you want me to find out how Celeste got fired! Could there be more to this than it seems?
Julian’s eyes were cold as he said, “We’ll know after you look into it.”
Marcus dared not waste any time. He dropped his usual laidback behavior and said, “Olay, I’ll do it right away.”
