Chapter 42
Julian seemed to sense Celeste’s worries and said, “Don’t stress al
ess about the pro
the proposal. I won’t mention it again.
“But my feelings for you aren’t going to change anytime soon. If you ever change your mind, just let me know. And don’t worry about the bed–It’s freshly washed,
so it’s clean.
“Please, do this for Sam.”
Celeste was stunned.
If Julian had kept talking about the proposal, she would have quicidy left. But because he had brough Samuel up, it was hard for her to say no.
With a sigh, Celeste said, “Okay, I’ll stay.”
Relieved, Julian finally said, “Get some rest. I’ll be in the guest room next door. If you need anything, just call me.
“Olay, good night.”
“Good night.”
With that, Julian turned and left the room, and Celeste was left alone.
Even though the night had been stressful, she was so tired that she fell asleep quickdy next to Sam after Julian left
However, in the middle of the night, Celeste was jolted awake by a wave of heat. She opened her eyes and reached out to find that Samuel was burning up with a high fever.
Shocked, Celeste got up and realized just how high Samuel’s fever was. Then, she quickly got out of bed and ran to Julian’s door and loudly knocked on it.
Julian opened the door, looking groggy and wearing a loose bathrobe.
It caught Celeste off guard, but she shookoff her surprise and said, “Samuel has a high fever.”
Julian’s face turned serious. “Don’t worry. I’ll have Bill call a doctor right away,”
After having Bill call the doctor, julian grabbed a first–aid kit, gave Samuel some medicine for the fever, and asked the staff to bring some warm water to help cool Samuel down. He also got a cold cloth for Samuel’s forehead.
As the night went on, Samuel mumbled,
- “Ms. H
Hart… Ms. Hari___”
Celeste quickly went to him, hugged him, and said, “It’s okay, Samuel. I’m here.”
In Celeste’s heart, she silently admired Julian’s foresight,
When the first light of dawn came, Sam’s fever finally started to go down.
At this point, Celeste was so tired she could barely keep her eyes open.
Julian noticed this and said, “You should rest with Sam, I’ll stay here and keep an eye on him,”
Celeste was struggling to stay awake as she said, “I’m okay… I can handle it.” But soon, her eyes closed again
Julian smiled a little and said, “You should sleep. His fever has gone down. If it comes back, I’ll wake you up.”
“Alright, if you say so. Just make sure to wake me up if anything changes,” Celeste reluctantly said.
Julian nodded and watched as Celeste lay down beside Sam and wrapped her arms around him.
After that, Julian sat by the bed, deep in thought. Then, without realizing it, he gently kissed Samuel’s and Celeste’s foreheads. The soft touch warmed Julian’s usually cold heart, and he softly whispered Into Celeste’s ear, “You can‘ Lescape, Celeste.”
Celeste slept well that night and didn’t wake up until 8:00 am.
When she finally woke up, she saw that Samuel had gotten better. He was sitting up in bed eating some porridge that Julian had given him.
As soon as Samuel saw Celeste, he ran over to her and said, “Ms. Hart, you’re awake!”
Celeste hugged him tightly and smiled, “Yes, I’m awake. How are you feeling now? Better?” she checked his forehead to make sure he wasn’t still too hot. Just then, Julian said, “He’s doing better now
“Anyway, it’s already late morning. You should get up, wash up, and have brealdast.”
