Chapter 73
Ethan knew Celeste well. Her mother was her only weakness. She would never wait until 24 hours later. He just had to pressure her the next morning, and Celeste would go to Julian for the collaboration
Stacy sat at the side and heard the good news too. Despite wearing a smile, she still felt slightly uneasy somehow. She wasn’t sure if everything would go as smoothly as Ethan had expected.
Just then, the doorbell rang, startling Ethan. He wondered if it could be Celeste since it was already late at night.
As Ethan thought about it, he stood up and opened the door. He was stunned when he saw two policemen standing at the door.
“sir, you’re…”
Celeste was behind the two policemen. She shot Ethan a cold look
The policeman said, “Mr. Hart, based on our investigation, you took a patient from the hospital without proper procedures. Please send the patient back immediately, or else we’ll detain you.”
Ethan’s expression fell after he heard that.
He had assumed that Celeste would report this to the police, but he hadn’t expected the police to handle the case. It hadn’t even been 22 hours since her mother had gone missing.
Ethan wondered about why the policemen had come after him and if Joel had exposed him. He thought Joel was useless.
His expression was grim as he smiled awlowardly.
“Sir, there’s a misunderstanding. I only wanted to bring my ex–wife to a better place to receive treatment. I didn’t discuss this with Celeste beforehand. I’m sorry for the trouble.”
Celeste was disgusted by Ethan’s expression. It was evident that he wanted to threaten her with Miranda, yet he had the audacity to say that he wanted to take care of her mother.
“It was all my fault, Celeste. Please tell the police to leave. It’s late…”
Ethan’s gaze was filled with malice as he stared at Celeste. It was as though he was implying that he would do something to Miranda if she didn’t tell the police to leave.
Celeste wasn’t afraid that Ethan would do anything to Miranda in the policemen’s presence.
A hint of mockery flitted across her eyes as she said coldly, “My mom has had nothing to do with you since long ago, I can take care of her. There’s no need to trouble yourself, Mr. Hart.”
Ethan’s expression turned livid in fury. He couldn’t say anything since the policemen were around.
The policemen stared at Ethan, urging him to reveal Miranda’s current whereabouts
Ethan gritted his teeth, and his gaze was tinged with reluctance. However, considering the current situation, he knew he couldn’t just bluff his way out of this
matter.
In the end, Ethan revealed an address. It was a small–scale clinic in Dansburg
“Mr. Hart, is this what you mean when you said you’re taking good care of my mom?
Celeste looked at Ethan sarcastically. He kept Miranda in such a small clinic, Wasn’t he worried that something might happen to Miranda that required her to undergo an emergency operation?
After getting the address, Celeste didn’t continue the
e conversation with Ethan and left Hart Estate with the policemen.
The clinic was located in a slightly isolated area. It was already midnight after they picked Miranda up and sent her back to the hospital
Celeste looked at her mother, who was lying in the ward’s bed safely. Tears started streaming down her face. Holding Miranda’s hand, she choked u
Celeste couldn’t imagine what she would do if something were to happen to her mother.
“Ms. Hart, we’ll take a leave first since we’ve found your mom. Please remember to give us a call if you need help,” the policeman said.
Celeste wiped the tears off her face and said apologetically, “Sir, thank you so much. I’m sorry to trouble you guys at this late hour.” “You’re welcome, Ms. Hart. It’s our duty,” the policeman replied.
