Celeste sat at the dining table. Before long, Samuel came downstairs, freshly washed and dressed.
“Ms. Hart, you haven’t left yet! I thought you’d left while I was asleep!”
“How could I do that? Celeste smiled.
After breakdast, the three of them lett Ford Residence. Julian first dropped Samuel off at school and planned to send Celeste to her office.
In the car, Samuel sat beside Celeste and looked absolutely delighted, “I’m so happy that Ms. Hart and Dad are taking me to school together!”
Seeing the smile on his face, Celeste couldn’t help but smile as well. She asked, “How are things at school?
“I’m really good at school. The teachers often praise me.”
As he spoke, Samuel suddenly remembered something and turned to Julian in the driver’s seat. “Oh, Dad, the school is having an event in a few days, and the teacher sald we should invite both parents to attend..”
Julian was usually very busy, so Henry and Mariana from the Ford family would accompany Samuel to such events in the past.
Hearing Samuel mention it now, Julian paused. It occurred to him that be had never attended any of these parental activities. He instinctively glanced at Celeste. Celeste’s heart skipped a beat. Was julian thinking of asking her to attend as well?
But she wasn’t Samuel’s mother. Wouldn’t it be awkward it she went?
Julian noticed her hesitation and said after a brief pause, “Tell me the date. I’ll make sure to attend this one.”
Samual was happy but also a little disappointed. Would only Julian be attending with him? “All the other kids will have their moms and dads with them.”
Seeing Samuel’s dejected expression, Celeste felt a pang of sympathy, but she didn’t know what to say.
Samuel looked up at her. His voice was soft and hesitant as he asked, “Mts. Hart, could you maybe… come with me too?”
He was interrupted before he could finish the last part.
“Samuel Ford” Julian called out his full name in a warning tone.
Samuel immediately fell silent, lowering his head. He looked thoroughly dejected and wanted Celeste to join too.
His eyes reddened, and Celeste felt a sharp pang of guilt. She couldn’t understand where this strange feeling was coming from
She couldn’t help but think of her own child. Was he doing well? Did he have a mom to accompany him to school events?
After along pause, Celeste couldn’t help but say, “I can go. Samuel, if you don’t mind, I’ll come with you.”
Samuel’s previously dim eyes brightened at her words “Is it true? Will you be coming with me?”
Celeste nodded and avoided looking in Julian’s direction.
Samuel’s face lit up with a smile, loolding absolutely overjoyed.

Back in the car, Julian spoke up as he drove Celeste to her company, “Thank you for agreeing to accompany Samuel to the event. He hasn’t been this happy in a long time.”
