Chapter 86
Indeed, Samuel had changed a lot after Celeste came into his lite.
Celeste became even more curious to hear that. What about Samuel’s mother? Had she not been by his side since he was bom?
Though curious, Celeste didn’t ask. Instead, she smiled and said, “No need to thank me. It’s nothing really. As long as Sam’s happy, and that’s all that matters.”
Julian responded with a calm hum. The two of them fell into silence, and the atmosphere became a bit awloward.
Celeste didn’t know what to say.
For some reason, the scene from the parking lot yesterday flashed through her mind. What would have happened if she hadn’t pushed him away?
The more she thought about it, the more her mind wandered. Her ears were flushed red, and her daze drifted out the window.
What on earth was she thinking? Celeste shook her head, trying to calm herself down. But it was no use.
Celeste felt as if she were under a spell, Julian’s image filling her mind. The ride felt excruciatingly long. Why weren’t they at the company yet?
Julian noticed the myriad expressions on her face, and a faint, barely noticeable smile played at the corner of his lips. What was Celeste thinking?
When they finally arrived at Celistian Solutions, Celeste breathed a sigh of relict. She hurriedly got out of the car, and Julian followed.
“Mr. Ford, thank you for the ride. I’ll be going now. Please drive safely.” She tumed to leave, but Julian grabbed her wrist.
Celeste felt a twinge of nervousness. She looked at him and asked, “What, what is it?
What else did he want to say?
Julian pressed his lips together and slowly asked, “Are you still trying to avoid me?”
Celeste wanted to argue that she hadn’t been avoiding him, but she looked embarrassed and said nothing
Again, Julian spoke in a deep voice, “You clearly can’t let go of Sam, and you can’t leave me either. If you do want to sever ties, you shouldn’t have taken me home yesterday.”
What? Celeste stared at him, stunned. Was he blaming her for taking him home?
“If you’ve done that, don’t think about avoiding me anymore.” Julian’s voice was steady, and he looked at her intently.
Before Celeste could react,
he pulled her into his arms. She was completely dazed as she rested her head against his chest.
“Celeste, please don’t sever ties with me anymore, will you?
His deep voice rang in her ears. Celeste momentarily forgot to breathe.
It took her a long moment to regain her composure. She dared not lookup at Julian and stammered, “I’m going to be late. I need to get to the office.” With that, she hurried away.
Julian watched her retreating figure and couldn’t help but smile helplessly at how cowardly Celeste was.
It wasn’t until she disappeared from sight that Julian got back into the car and drove away.
Celeste had no idea how she made it into the company. Her heart was racing, and her face was uncontrollably flushed. She must be losing her mind.
But Julian’s deep voice and irresistible eyes… she was truly afraid that if this continued, she would lose control of her heart.
Just then, Sabrina walked over and gave Celeste a once–over. “Celeste, what’s wrong with you? Your face is so flushed. Are you sick?”
Celeste jumped and snapped back to reality. She forced a smile and said, “No, no, Sabrina, don’t worry. I’m fine.”
