Chapter 20: The Meeting Between Robertson and Irene
Decker’s expression changed, but Helen didn’t think the old lady living in the old mansion posed any threat to them.
Helen and Kashi exchanged a glance. Seizing the opportunity of Decker being in a relatively good mood, Helen lightly coughed and prepared to speak.
“Mr. Decker, we’ve given you the promised collector’s gun. When will it be convenient for you to fulfill your promise to us?” Helen asked with a fawning.
smile.
Decker, remembering the gun and today’s events, instantly felt annoyed.
Kashi interjected, “That was the old lady’s most valuable gun. And this, this is a dagger from a sixteenth–century fallen nobleman.
Decker’s previously sullen face lit up when he saw the dagger.
This was the Milos Blade!
It was said to have disappeared for hundreds of years, a highly coveted item among historians and collectors!
“Ms. Helen, I fully understand your intentions now. With this, handling Joanna’s matter becomes much easier!” Decker laughed heartily.
What a joke!
How could he use such a valuable item on Joanna?
With this dagger, he could secure an external position and still have the chance to return someday!
Helen was ecstatic. “This is wonderful! When can we get Joanna’s work contract and notification? Sorry, I don’t mean to pressure you; we’re just so excited and eager to learn from you!”
Having received the items, Decker’s tone softened significantly.
“Of course, I’ll take you with me. The more I see Joanna, the more she feels like
my own daughter!”
Helen was even happier, showering Decker with compliments, filling the room.
with a cheerful atmosphere.
Unnoticed by everyone, Joanna remained silent.
She stood quietly, watching the scene unfold.
Decker paid no attention to Joanna’s thoughts.
To him, Joanna must be petty, stingy like a miser. Having received so much money without yet accomplishing anything, she was surely dissatisfied.
With the items secured, Decker’s purpose in meeting the Kashi family was fulfilled.
He coughed a few times, and the nanny politely ushered the Kashi family out, citing Decker’s need for rest.
Joanna’s brows furrowed from the moment they left.
“Father, Mother, did Grandma teach Irene some real skills?”
Joanna couldn’t help but voice her suspicion in the car. “Also, Decker has taken a lot of our money, but I believe the value of an FBI clerical job is far less. than that money. Have we been deceived?”
Helen sneered. “Impossible! That old lady? What real skills could she have! Sweetie, let me tell you, she came back to get married because she wrongfully accused someone as a private detective, ruining a family, and had to come back in disgrace.”
Kashi pondered for a moment. “That seems unlikely. Decker values his reputation, has solved many problems for people before, and has a good reputation. We shouldn’t be deceived; the extra money should be for expanding our network.”
“But I still think Mr. Decker’s behavior is odd.”
Joanna remained frowning. “Father, we should investigate this to be at ease.”
Helen said helplessly, “No need to investigate, my sweetie! If that old lady really had any skills, how could she still be living in that old mansion? It leaks
and drafts.‘
“Then what about Decker? He said he got into trouble before and still needs. collectibles now. Is it because his problem isn’t solved? Why can’t we directly
give the items to the person solving Decker’s problem?”
Kashi frowned.
“And how did Irene suddenly start solving cases? Decker even said she fooled. the FBI this time. I think she must still have some skills; the FBI can’t be that
incompetent.”
When it came to Irene, Helen became more alert.
“Yes, we should investigate thoroughly. She’s staying in the South District for al reason!”
Helep frowned, thinking viciously: If necessary, we’ll find someone to deal with her and drive her out of City A! We can’t let her keep entangling with our family!
If she doesn’t want to give money, then we’ll use this method.
You forced us, Irene.
Joanna finally felt relieved hearing Helen’s words.
She hugged Helen’s arm, acting coquettishly, making Kashi and Helen laugh with joy.
The family was immersed in their beautiful visions of the future, unaware that Decker and their family were about to face ruin.
Meanwhile.
At the Kashi old mansion.
Irene, having washed up, lay on her bed.
Her long, smooth chestnut hair spread over the white sheets, her shapely legs. hidden under the soft blanket.
Her phone suddenly vibrated, and Irene answered it.
“Do you know what time it is?”
The deputy head of the mercenary group on the other end quickly said, “Don’t hang up, boss! It’s a big job!”
“One minute.”
“Do you remember the assassination of Teo? That person contacted us again.
for another job, this time targeting the Gibson Mercenary Group!”
Irene became a bit more awake, a smile playing on her lips.
Looks like this is Stefan’s solution.
“Boss, should we take the job?”
The deputy head asked cautiously, knowing that this time the target was a peer, posing more danger than assassinating a rich man.
“How much are they offering?”
“Fifty million.”
“Okay, you guys handle this task.”
old, the
Irene’s voice sounded distant and sleepy: “Don’t worry, most of the old. members of the Gibson Mercenary Group are dead. Only one remains; the rest are new recruits.”
The deputy head laughed. “Got it! Expect good news from us!”
“Distribute the money as usual. I won’t be participating this time.”
“Boss, you’re too kind!”
The deputy head praised her effusively. Irene, too tired, tossed the phone aside.
Clearly, the deputy head knew his boss well. Hearing no response, he hung up.
Irene drifted into sleep.
A good night’s sleep.
The next day, Irene went to the hospital to get medicine for the Madame Kashi.
As she entered the hospital, she heard a familiar voice. “Miss Irene? I didn’t expect to see you here!”
Turning around, she saw it was a police detective and other officers.
“Miss Irene, we’re about to visit the victims‘ families and follow up. Would you like to join us?”
